Disappointing Weekend

My first International Hermit and Stitch Weekend was a bit of a flop.  In fact I must be the only person with a negative stitch count!

I have to mention that this week I've switched one of my medications and it's left me quite emotional and slightly manic as well as a number of other side effects!

I was planning to stitch on my Blue Moon Story Keep in line with the weekly HAED BB SAL.  I decided on Friday that I wasn't happy with the DMC satin thread I'd used in place of the Kreinik 032, so thought I'd replace it with the new white Kreinik Mori silk thread I bought recently.  Did a bit of test stitching and liked it so thought great, I'll just unpick the DMC Satin.  I've not stitched on 25 count before and I had not realised how tough it would be to unpick the stitches, not only did it take forever, but a load of the nearby stitches also had to be removed as they had come loose.  By the time OH had come back from work I was in tears and ready to throw it in the bin.  He managed to calm me down and stop me from throwing it away.  In the end, I've only unpicked the parts on the moon and left the stitching on the lady as it is but I've lost track now of what stitches I've done (I highlight the stitches I've done on the chart).

All of this left me completely crushed with a major crisis of confidence and I've convinced myself that I'm just not good enough to stitch HAED charts.  So this weekend I haven't stitched at all.

Last week as it was Valentine's day, I made a nice card for OH!

It's a free design by Sanman Originals that was sent out in their newsletter.  It's the first one of their designs I've stitched and I have to say I loved it.  Although you can't see it in the picture, the card has a lovely gold dust shimmer to it.

Hopefully soon I'll be back on track and have some more positive news and some progress pictures!

  1. Oh, I'm so sorry you had such a rough time!! :( I don't see it as a negative per se... just you had to unpick to redo. You can do that HAED, don't let it get you down.

Perhaps you can use a different highlighter to go over what you haven't unpicked. This way, you'll know the stitches with the original highlighter has to be redone. i've done that before and it works well.

Love the card you stitched for you OH. So cute. :)

  2. Oh no, no, no, no, no! Don't let the frogs win! I'm sorry you had such a rough go of it. Maybe you could just switch to something simple and do some stitching on that before you move back to your HAED piece? Then you won't feel as tense when you pick it back up, maybe. But don't talk yourself out of stitching something you like. This is just a bump in the road that will make you feel all the prouder when you finally do finish your project! Sending anti-frog thoughts your direction.

  3. Don't give up on the HAEDs. They are so much fun and addictive. You just learned of trying a new thread, you can figure out what you did when you take a break from it.

  4. Thank you so much for your messages of support, you have no idea how much it means to me. The cross stitching community is full of such helpful and supportive people. I won't give up, I did pick up some simple stitching to make a card for a friend that is ill last night and I'm slowly regaining that missing confidence.

I think it's just a case of "take a deep breath and pick it up again".

    Thank you so much!

  5. Sorry you felt so bad about your stitching weekend. Someone once told me not to say unpicking but to call it 'reverse stitching' as it doesn't make you feel so bad! ;)
    Love your card too!

  6. Don't stress about it and take some deep breaths. It'll be alright in the end!

That card is just so cute!

  7. Sorry to hear about you mishap with the HAED. I too have times when I get frustrated when stitching. That is when I put it down and do something else, either something non stitchy or a different project. You'll get back to it soon enough! :) ps found you through the IHSW page...

  8. Poor you sounds like you had a rough time. I love your card, don't worry about the HAED, we all feel like that some times. Just relax, take it easy and maybe work on something else for a little while.
